Work samples of Adam Auster

  • "Mercury Progress: Up in Smoke," a feature story by Richard Freisner (concept developed, and article heavily edited, by me) in the February, 2020, issue of Interstate Waters, a semiannual publication that I created and edited. (Chicago Manual of Style)

Richard and I worked together to say something new about the EPA's 2011 cap on airborne mercury emissions, in which NEIWPCC had played a key role. I wrote most of the current-day context, and a sidebar on the second page. The story showcases the organization’s strengths, role, and thought leadership.

A one-page primer on the emerging science of PFAS, for policy makers and the interested public.

This story was part of a broader effort to showcase NEIWPCC as a trustworthy source of information about public policy, in this case related to the Clean Water Act. See also “The Docket,” an editorial department that I created and wrote, included in this excerpt.

The perennial challenge of an annual report is to find fresh ways to present material that repeats, in form if not fact, every year. The 2018 report comprises a twelve-page timeline that shows eleven dimensions of data for every month of the year.
